Janet MacLeod Cravenelli Marsh

Janet MacLeod is an award-winning artist who lives and maintains her studio in Newburyport, MA. For many years she had a highly regarded graphic arts career before retiring in 2003 to pursue her lifelong dream of fine art. Since then, she has immersed herself in the world of landscape painting in the studio and en plein air; studying extensively in oil with NH artist, J.C. Airoldi, and pastelist, Karen Jones. She has also taken numerous plein air workshops along the eastern seaboard with artists such as Kevin Shea and Andrew Anderson Bell, to name a few.

She has recently been accepted into artist membership in the North Shore Arts Association.

Ms. MacLeod has been accepted into numerous juried shows around New England since beginning her pursuits and most recently her work, “Cravenelli Marsh”, was chosen as part of the prestigious Faber Birren National Show in NYC.

Her subjects range from local (and Cape Cod) marshes to England and Scotland to imaginary landscapes. A recent workshop in Taos, New Mexico holds promise for many new exciting subjects. Simple abstract design and bold color are qualities she strives for in each piece.

Janet has won several awards in the arts including the Fall 2006 and 2007 Newburyport Art Association juried shows Award for Pastel. In May, the Newburyport Art Association hosted a well received 2 woman show for MacLeod and Susan Sanford. The show, in the Laura Combs Hills gallery, included over 40 paintings and was among the most successful in the galleries recent months.

Janet’s work can be found regularly at the Newburyport Art Association and here online. She also welcomes studio visits.
