Janet MacLeod is an award-winning artist who lives and maintains her studio in Newburyport, MA. For many years she had a highly regarded graphic arts career before retiring to pursue her lifelong dream of fine art. Since then, she has immersed herself in the world of landscape painting in the studio and plein air, studying extensively in oil with J. C. Airoldi and pastels with Karen Jones. She has also taken numerous plein air workshops with artist such as Richard McKinley, Albert Handell, Doug Dawson, Susan Olgivie, and Kevin Shea to name a few.
MacLeod’s subjects range from local (and Cape Cod) marshes to the castles and skies of Scotland to New Mexico to imaginary landscapes. Simple abstract design and bold color are qualities she strives for in each piece.
Ms. MacLeod has been accepted into numerous international, national and regional juried shows since beginning her art career including: Connecticut Pastel Society “Renaissance in Pastel 2010”, 2010 Roddy Show at Concord Art Association, the 2009 Juried Exhibition of the International Association of Pastel Societies, Faber Birren National Color Award Show, “CT+5” at the West Hartford Art League, “Its Pastel” at the Pastel Society of New Hampshire, “Pastels Only” at the Pastel Painters of Maine, Newburyport Art Association’s Regional for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and the 16th Annual Show at the Pastel Society of Oregon.
Janet has won several awards including the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Award for Pastel at the Newburyport Art Association and twice in the Pastel Painters of Maine “Pastels Only’ show.
She is a member of the following art associations:
North Shore Arts Association (artist member), Pastel Society of America (juried associate member), Connecticut Pastel Society, Pastel Painters of Maine, Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, Pastel Society of New Hampshire, Concord Art Association, Newburyport Art Association, and the Newburyport Ten.
